Someone broke into my household and swiped my two netbooks. I took the insurance money and bought this Acer. What a fantastic computer. It is lite weight, quick and smooth. It is very intuitive to run. Instruction tome and technical support did not know that the button to turn on the wireless is under the wireless light on the lower left side but other than that I haven’t had a conundrum. I bought this because I wanted the 4G for photography. I am very pleased.

I’m a computer professional and picky about computers. This is an awesome computer because its extremely light and somewhat powerful and battery long lasting. This is a tiny machine and kind of waify in a excellent way. Carry it with you everywhere. The machine is quick out of hibernation and generally there is no drag. Blue LEDs look nice. Fantastic gorgeous show, but 1366×768 is not a full mass and you will wish you had more vertical pixels at times. Must fine tune the show pixel mass and zoom the browser for older eyes. I’ll take the compact/light over the extra pixels – referring to 3.1 lbs vs 4.3 lbs – its a huge diff to me. Keys are not ideal but can be navigated. Keep hitting “]” when I hit enter- DOH!! Arrow keys are 1/2 mass – yuck – c’mon Acer. Mouse buttons are thin and tiny – too much so – ouch. Its probably more a recreational computer than a student’s research computer due to limited screen mass/keyboard. The Blue is nice. I like it for what it is and not for what it is not. Hope this helps.

I chose this Acer 11.6 inch laptop over a netbook, because I wanted a small, lightweight form factor, but with real computing power, so I could do more than just surf the net.

Pros:

Lightweight, vey portable.

Intel Core 2 Duo processor much more powerful than Atom processors in netbooks.

Plenty of RAM and large hard drive for an ultralight.

Crisp, astute show; 1366 X 768 resolution provides nice coverage without too much scrolling.

Wireless range is excellent (by 802.11g, haven’t tried Draft-N yet).

Comfortably-sized keyboard for such a small laptop.

Touchpad is smooth and accurate; multi-touch takes some getting ancient to.

Battery life is brilliant! (I haven’t tested it for 8 hours straight, but by it periodically throughout the day, I reckon it would come accurate. Laptop Magazine’s test indicated 8 hrs, 45 min. on their ordinary battery test.

Plenty of ports – 3 USB, HDMI!!, multi-card booklover.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; I like this OS much better than Vista.

Cons:

Bottom left side gets honestly warm, but I can use it directly on my lap without any discomfort.

Not really a con, but something to be aware of: no optical drive; but that shouldn’t be expected in an ultralight like this. I bought an external USB DVD drive which facility fine when I need one.

Here’s a link to Laptop Magazine’s review if you want an independent technical review:

[...].

I’ve had this laptop for about a month now, with no issues (hardware or software). That means I also haven’t needed to use Acer’s technical support, so I can’t comment on that.

I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for an ultrportable with more computing power than a netbook.

I bought this gem to replace my 10 inch Asus atom driven netbook. The atom netbook is fantastic for mass and mobility but just to slow. It would take 15 minutes to load up. This guy is quick. Also I find Windows 7 to be very smooth. I was a small worried that the 11.6 inches would be too huge after I went to Fry’s and looked at the 12-13 inch options on show, but it’s perfect for carrying around the household and traveling. Every person should own one of these–well value the price. Fantastic job ACER!

If you are considering buying a netbook for a travel computer take a look at this one instead. It is a full feature laptop ( 1.3mhz Centrino 2 chip…) no larger than a legal pad. The only thing it lacks is an internal DVD drive, but there are dozens of external USB powered DVD drives available (i.e. HP 556s …) to take along if you need one. I got my 1810T from Tiger Direct, they have them in have a supply of at their local retail outlets. The screen on this 1810T is astute. It comes complete with Windows 7 Premium (x64) and 4gb of DDR2 ram. The hard drive is a huge 320gb mass but only 5400 RPM. A 7200 RPM drive might make it a small quicker but since it’s not a making a bet computer it doesn’t really matter. When the prices come down on large SSD drives that would be a better option. The battery life is indeed long but to get near the 8 hour life they advertise you need to turn off the Wi-Fi. If not you’ll see about 5 hours of battery life. The laptop take in is shiney and smooth texture which means finger prints will show easily. Overall I’m very satisfied with this small laptop, and it’s perfect to throw in my suitcase for travel. It beats the netbooks hands down.
